For DS4/DS5 to properly function on your Windows 10/11 PC you are required to install necessary first and third party drivers. Some of which, of course, are optional but will improve DS4windows capabilities. Here we will list and give a description of every driver needed to allow your DualShock 4 and DualSense 5 to work. Launching the DS4 app will also ask to install the drivers.
DS4Windows uses the FakerInput driver to expose system-wide virtual keyboard, relative mouse and absolute mouse. Allows Keyboard + Mouses events/commands to be usable in some situations where the usual way DS4Windows sends those commands (via SendInput) fails. Examples of those situations are elevated processes and games, UAC prompts and anti-cheat systems that block SentInput events. Use of FakerInput is necessary to allow DS4Windows to work with some games with anti-cheat protection like valorant.
HidGuardian is a driver that can hide controllers from the system and allow only chosen processes to detect them. It was previously used by DS4Windows to solve the double input issue, but was made obsolete by the release of its successor, HidHide, a similar driver that works better and is easier to use.
You can download and install your drivers by using either Free or Pro version of Driver Easy. But with the Pro version it takes only 2 clicks (and you get full support and a 30-day money back guarantee):
If you have used an Xbox 360 controller or installed its driver on your computer previously, you may still need to update the driver as it may be out of date. You can still do this automatically with Driver Easy:
The software is called DS4Windows (opens in new tab), and it makes connecting the PS4 controller to your PC incredibly simple. It basically fools your PC into thinking the connected DualShock 4 is an Xbox 360 controller, which is supported in Windows. To get it from the DS4Windows website just download the latest build from the GitHub page.
Once the files have been extracted the destination folder will open, and you'll see two files. One, DS4Updater.exe, is a program that will keep the DS4Windows program updated with the latest drivers, so it's worth running this file if you encounter problems later. Double-click the second file, DS4Windows.exe, to begin the setup procedure that will get the PS4 Dualshock Controller working on your PC.
function gennr()var n=480678,t=new Date,e=t.getMonth()+1,r=t.getDay(),a=parseFloat("0."+String(e)+r);return new Intl.NumberFormat('en-US').format(Math.round(569086*a+n))var rng=document.querySelector("#restoro-downloads");rng.innerHTML=gennr();rng.removeAttribute("id");var restoroDownloadLink=document.querySelector("#restoro-download-link"),restoroDownloadArrow=document.querySelector(".restoro-download-arrow"),restoroCloseArrow=document.querySelector("#close-restoro-download-arrow");if(window.navigator.vendor=="Google Inc.")restoroDownloadLink.addEventListener("click",function()setTimeout(function()restoroDownloadArrow.style.display="flex",500),restoroCloseArrow.addEventListener("click",function()restoroDownloadArrow.style.display="none"));
Follow the steps in that driver installer. This installs an optional driver that hides the DualShock 4's DirectInput gamepad connection from Windows, so it only accepts the converted XInput inputs through DS4Windows. This prevents a common "double gamepad" error.
The controller should show up under the Controllers tab. Wait a minute to make sure all of the necessary drivers show up. Once Windows pops up a message saying it has connected a new Xbox 360 controller, you're ready to play!
Most DualShock 3 controllers sold online these days are FAKE. It's impossible to tell fake controllers apart as they are made with the same molds and have same symbols and labels on them as official DualShock 3 controllers. Fake controllers might be missing some features (such as motion controls or pressure-sensitive buttons) and they are often not compatible with DualShock 3 drivers. For this reason it's not recommended to purchase these controllers anymore. On top of that, even if you find a original controller then setting it up still involves installing additional software and requires far more effort than other options.
The recommended method is to use RPCS3's dedicated DualShock 3 pad handler. This can be done in two ways: by using the official DualShock 3 driver from Sony or by using Nefarius' DsHidMini driver. This option lets users take advantage of all features such as pressure-sensitive buttons and motion controls.
DsHidMini is a universal driver for the DualShock 3 developed by Nefarius and is currently in Beta testing. It allows the DualShock 3 to be presented as different types of HID devices. In its "SXS" mode, the driver emulates the behavior of the official Sony driver, ensuring compatibility with RPCS3. When used in conjunction with Nefarius' BthPS3, controllers can be connected by Bluetooth after being paired. To use RPCS3's dedicated DualShock 3 pad handler with Nefarius' DsHidMini driver:
When you have installed official Sony driver, your DualShock 3 controller prevent Windows 10 to turn on deep sleep mode automatically (after the timeout you defined in windows settings). To re-enable this behavior, you simply need to disable your PlayStation 3 controller in device panel (under Human Interface Device (HID) list). Image
When using the evdev pad handler on Linux, some users may encounter cases where the analog sticks of the controller are not centered but stuck in the corner of the movement zone. This issue occurs when incorrect drivers are used for the controller.
After you download and install the DS4 Driver for Windows, you should pair the DualShock 4 with it. The PS4 is compatible with most PC games, which means you can use the PS4 controller with games on your PC. Just make sure you install the correct driver to avoid system changes. There are several drivers available for the 360 and DS4 for Windows. You can also download the DS4 Controller for Windows to enable them to work with your computer.
In the DS4 Tool folder, you should find several files. You should find several files inside it. You should also extract the DS4 Adapter drivers. The driver will install the DS4 Controller. Once the driver is installed, you can use your controller. After installing the DS4 Driver for Windows, you must pair the DS4 with your PC. In this way, you will be able to play the game without a problem.
Once DS4 Windows has been downloaded and installed, connect the handheld tool to the PC with the micro-USB cable; this cable is the same one that is used to charge the gadget and would have come with the official package of the console controller that was purchased.
Once the Razer Raiju driver (HID controller) is installed on your PC, you can play most PC games on Steam as it is recognized as an XInput Controller. However, If you have installed Razer Raiju PC Driver to use it outside of Steam games before, simply revert the driver.
Note: You may encounter a .NET Runtime error message. As discussed early in this article, .NET 5.0 Runtime is a prerequisite for this program. So, if you see the error, download .NET 5.0 Runtime.
All ScpToolkit drivers can be uninstalled completely with the [ScpToolkit CleanWipe Utility]. Your Bluetooth adapter will also be reverted back to normal. This may also uninstall any additional USB drivers for PS Vita, Nintendo Switch etc.
The DualShock 4 is a great controller. Wouldn't it be nice if you could use it for Steam games, emulation, or PS Now streaming? You can! And while you used to have to download drivers and mapping software, the process is much simpler now. Let's take a look at how it works on Mac and PC.
While it's not quite as simple as it is on a Mac, connecting your DualShock 4 to a PC is still pretty easy. First, you'll need to download DS4Windows, a free app that allows you to emulate an Xbox 360 controller (which is supported by Windows) with your DualShock. Some games support the PS4 controller without DS4Windows, but downloading the app will give you more customization options as well as wider compatibility.
When you look at the specs, it's not hard to see why the Xbox 360 controller remains so well-regarded. According to Microsoft's support page, drivers for a wired Xbox 360 controller come pre-installed on Windows 10 and Windows 8 operating systems. You can simply plug in the controller and the drivers are downloaded automatically.
The Steam Controller has been on the market for about a year at this point. It aims to bridge the gap between controller support and keyboard-and-mouse playability. The Steam controller's big selling point as a PC gamepad is its two "haptic force actuators," a pair of circular pads that allow it to emulate the sensations of playing a game on a mouse while using a controller. Additionally, the Steam Controller has fully programmable inputs that you can download from the Steam community, or you can make your own if you prefer.
Along with the standard native support that other Xbox controllers enjoy on PCs, the Elite is also highly customizable. It comes with two d-pads, three pairs of analog sticks and four optional attachable paddles, for a gamepad tailored to your specifications. You can also download the Xbox Accessories app to help tailor the sensitivity of your controller and remap certain inputs to the paddles themselves. However, the latter functionality is limited to ten inputs, the max on most controllers.
